**Position Overview:**
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Automation and Controls Journeyman Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical systems, automation technologies, and control systems, coupled with the ability to troubleshoot, install, and maintain complex automation equipment. The Automation and Controls Journeyman Electrician will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our clients’ industrial processes and manufacturing facilities.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Automation and Controls Maintenance:** Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on automation equipment, control panels, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and other related systems.
- **System Installation:** Collaborate with engineering teams to install, configure, and test new automation and control systems in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
- **Troubleshooting:** Diagnose and resolve technical issues in automation and control systems, identifying faults, repairing or replacing faulty components, and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
- **Programming and Configuration:** Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programming to ensure seamless automation processes. Implement logic and communication protocols to achieve desired system behavior.
- **Safety Compliance:** Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when working with electrical systems, ensuring all work is performed in compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- **Documentation:** Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment modifications, and repairs. Update technical documentation and diagrams as needed.
- **Collaboration:** Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and project managers, to contribute to the successful execution of automation projects and initiatives.
- **Continuous Improvement:** Identify opportunities for process improvement within the automation and controls realm. Recommend upgrades, modifications, and new technologies to enhance system performance.
- **Training and Mentoring:** Provide guidance and training to junior technicians and apprentices, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
**Qualifications:**
– Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent certification in the electrical field.
– Proven experience (10 years) as an Automation and Controls Electrician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
– Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
– Strong understanding of PLC programming (e.g., ladder logic), HMI configuration, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
– Familiarity with various automation components, including sensors, actuators, motor drives, and relays.
– Knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety practices related to automation and control systems.
– Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex electrical and automation issues.
– Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
– Willingness to stay updated with emerging automation technologies and industry trends.
– Physical stamina and agility to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights, as required.
